Mum and Dad take their two children on a weekend camping trip to Sandy Beach.  On the way they encounter The Disciples of Death bikie gang and a bus full of school children, one of whom rudely pokes out her tongue at their car as they overtake.

Unfortunately, both these groups are also camping at Sandy Beach and the family expect the worst.

Their first impressions turn out to be wrong. The Disciples help Dad to put up the tent and the narrator, a young girl, discovers that the rude girl on the bus is actually quite fun to play with. The humour that Graham uses in telling the story and the cartoon-style illustrations make this a great book to help children explore the problems of stereotyping.

It’s also a good read for adults. It won the 1991 Australian Children’s Book Council Picture Book of the Year Award and is available in paperback.
