The Sacred Life of Us by Phil Daughtry

The Sacred Life of Us” is a short handbook for new Christians. This book aims at a fairly crowded market and I approached it with ambivalence, why would someone write yet another book for young people on living the Christian life?

I found myself very surprised and more than impressed.

Phil Daughtry’s significant youth ministry experience and practical approach shines though this very easy and enjoyable read. He approaches a range of issues from prayer to church membership to sexuality with sensitivity, openness and a great sense of humour.

Young people find this book “funny” which is not what you would usually expect from this kind of offering. It is certainly not “preachy” or typically conservative.

”The Sacred Life of Us” is written for young Christians beginning their faith journey but the value goes far beyond that, it will work equally well for older “new” Christians or for younger “not-so-new” Christians.

I really wish this book had been around when I was starting out.

Your local Christian bookshop will probably have many of these kinds of “how to be a Christian” books on the shelf but I suggest that you bypass the rest and go for this great Australian offering.

Buy a copy of “The Sacred Life of Us” for your older teenage son, daughter, grandchild, friend or youth group member and they will probably find it helpful and entertaining enough to give it a go. Read it yourself you’ll like it too.
