In the land of small, big and tall…
Smalls are carefree,
Talls are fast and flexible,
Big is solid and strong
This is a very different book by Stephen Michael King, the author and artist behind a lot of my favourite books, Patricia, Milly and Jack, One Blue Sock, The Man Who Likes Boxes…
Different because there are no people in the story, it’s an abstract story about shapes and colours, big things and small things and how they need each other to exist. Stephen plays with shapes and colours and, as he introduces us to them we’re invited to experience all the emotions that the shapes install in us.
This book, this story started as a mural, if you head over to Stephen’s website you’ll see that he’s got some more drawings that helped design the book as well as a story behind the story and the mural behind the book.
It’s a different, but astonishingly beautifully illustrated and colourful book that plays with the reader’s imagination and artistic sensibilities.
