Under Construction

July 21, 2010 by djwright · Leave a Comment

I hate it when people put up "under construction" pages... But I'm in the process of moving things around and re-setting up digital orthodoxy with WP3.0 Things will be a little ugly around here until I've got everything back in order. This may take a month... After which everything will be back in order and on track.

Luke 1:26-38 : Year B (Advent 4) – Hail Mary

Given the sort of risk and physical crap the bible says Mary had to survive in order to have a baby I’ve always thought that Lara Croft (from the video game Tomb Raider) might be a more appropriate image of the mother of Christ rather than domesticated, insipidly pale faced, blue veiled, watery eyed portraits we’re used to. If you consider that talk of a new Davidic line would have likely been considered seditious in the then occupied Palestine and consider the content of Mary’s Song in the

Contemplative Youth Ministry by Mark Yaconelli

An encouraging trend in youth ministry over the last 5-10 years has been the growth of contemplative practices in youth ministry. one of the real pioneers in this in the usa has been mark yaconelli who developed and ran the youth ministry and spirituality project for 7 years. the question he wanted to explore was what would happen if you took youth groups in a range of denominations and worked to introduce them to ways of contemplative prayer. would this have any transformative effect? the results

Why Wolverine is not the Saviour

I’m hoping not to get any letters of complaint from any X-Men fanatics out there with this piece, let me first remind everyone that I’m a comic book fan as well, and the X-Men stories are epics that, for me are as important culturally as the Lord of The Rings (no, I did not just say that). So I mean no harm to the X-Men series as I type this… But… Wolverine is not Jesus. There, I’ve said it, after previously making saviour links between the story of Wolverine and Jesus for discussion

REVOLVE

August 20, 2010 by djwright · Leave a Comment

Revolve was a youth research paper that was written by Dave Fagg and Vivianne Gloz while they were working with YFC. Revolve explored many issues that are still relevant to Australian youth today. Editions were produced quarterly and covered a number of issues including indigenous youth, religion, technology and sexuality. I recently asked Dave Fagg and Vivianne Gloz if they'd be ok with me uploading them all to this site because the original documents were no longer online, I'd like to thank

Contemplative Youth Ministry by Mark Yaconelli

The central problem in sharing the Christian faith with young people doesn’t concern words; it’s deeper than that. The real crisis facing those of us who seek to share faith with youth is this:
we don’t know how to be with our kids.
we don’t know how to be with ourselves.
we don’t know how to be with [...]

Contemplative Youth Ministry – Interview with Mark Yaconelli

Mark Yaconelli has released his long awaited a book titled contemplative youth ministry. It is a wonderful book. If you are involved in youth ministry you should get it. Actually, I think you should get it and read it if you are in any kind of leadership in church. This isn’t really another model to [...]

Youth Electoral Studies

The YES Project Youth participation in the electoral process is of great concern in Western democracies today. For many years we have known that young people are less likely to enroll to votethan older groups. This national study is attempting to uncover the reasons why this is so and also look at what motivates Australia’s [...]

Young People and Mentoring: Towards a National Strategy

Formal mentoring aims to provide young people with support and guidance through planned relationships with positive adult and peer role models; it does so within a framework which includes experienced and qualified staff and trained volunteers. A large volunteer effort in Australia supports mentoring for young people from primary school age to young adulthood and [...]
